Keyword Research: A Practical Guide to Choosing SEO Keywords

What is a keyword?
It is the phrase a user types into Google. Choosing it carefully is the foundation of SEO, because it decides who reaches your site and why.
1. Understand search types
There are informational searches ("how to build a website"), commercial ones ("best web design company") and transactional ones ("website design price"). Match each page to the right type.
2. Use the tools
Start with Google Keyword Planner, Google autocomplete and the "People also ask" box, and review the queries already showing in Search Console.
3. Analyze competitors
Search your keyword and examine the top 5 results: how long is the content, what are the headings, what is missing? Then publish something better and more complete.
4. Map one primary keyword per page
Give each page one primary keyword plus supporting ones, and place it in the title, description, main heading and first paragraph without stuffing. See how pages fit together in How to rank on Google.
5. Track and improve
Review performance monthly, improve pages with impressions but few clicks and add content for promising keywords. Do not forget speed: 7 steps to speed up your site.
